The Essence & the Scent: Go ahead – you know you want Marc Jacobs’ Lola
I’m usually not one to get super excited over Fall scents. They tend, in general, to rely a little too heavily on known and expected tones and undertones, making me crave pies and turkeys – NOT something I want to remind people of as I walk by them in the NYC subways.
So I wasn’t too thrilled when I learned about Lola, Marc Jacobs newest creation. But I should have known better. Jacobs does seasonal scent like no one else. Remember the summer scents? How wonderfully creative they were, playing on seasonal items without all the boring flavors. And Lola is no exception – and I mean this in every way, starting with the bottle.
This is a gorgeous fragrance in an equally gorgeous bottle. Reminiscent of Carmen Miranda and nights in the Copa, this slightly translucent purple bottle and intricate vibrantly colored flower cap could easily become your next conversation piece. But so could the fragrance! A balanced combination of flowers, spices, and fruit, Lola manages to be all three without ever becoming too much of one or the other. I really appreciate the warmer, muskier undertones – and the fact that these don’t become the center point. But don’t go overboard here! Though the fragrance is balanced, it is also potent and a little will go a long way.
And try leaving the bottle out in the bathroom – every guest will come out with a little Lola on them. They will just not be able to resist it!
