As someone who doesn’t have kids (yet!), I must say that I haven’t really spent any time thinking about what kind of chemicals one would find on any given baby product. I just assume that, because they are for babies, they would be milder and natural. In a recent chat with Danielle Raynor I discovered just how wrong I have been. As one of the co-founders of Lavanila and mother of a cute little girl, Danielle knows first hand how hard it is to find a product that she’s trust enough to put on her baby – so much so that she decided to make her own.

Thus, Lavanila’s Healthy Baby Collection, a 100% natural line of baby products. Free of, parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and other chemicals, the Healthy Baby collections is uniquely formulated with 30 essential vitamins and minerals that help support the growth and development of baby skin. It’s also formulated with ingredients such as Noni juice, organic Calendula flower, and organic Aloe to nurture, soothe, and hydrate skin.

The products in this collection were also carefully selected. Which products does a baby really need? Five, according to Lavanila:

-          Healthy Baby Wash ($16): multitasking shampoo and body wash in one easy to maneuver with one hand pump bottle.

-          Healthy Baby Lotion ($15): everyday moisturizing and hydrating weightless lotion.

-          Healthy Baby Bottom ($15): calming and soothing diaper rash relief.

-          Healthy Baby Butter ($14): deeper and richer gentle hydration for dry skin.

-          Healthy Baby Block ($20): SPF 40 natural yet powerful UVA and UVB protection.

Here’s what Danielle had to say about this new collection:

Q: What inspired you to create The Healthy Baby line?

Danielle: The Healthy Baby Collection comes from a place of authenticity.  I’m not only a business woman but a mother of a 2 year old little girl.  Having an acute awareness of ingredients and the impact of chemicals on the skin, I searched endlessly for baby care products that were truly natural, nourishing and safe.  With no such luck, the quest for the World’s Healthiest Baby Collection began.

Q: How is it different from other baby products?

Danielle: Lavanila’s Healthy Baby Collection is uniquely formulated to deliver 30 essential vitamins and minerals that support the health and development of delicate baby skin. Vitamins – including Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Folic Acid, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium and Potassium – work to keep delicate baby skin healthy by improving skin moisture content, supporting the skin’s immunity, smoothing the skin surface and reducing skin inflammation.  It’s like a multi-vitamin for baby skin.

Q: What were some of the challenges you faced creating it?

Danielle: Making 100% natural products completely free of harsh chemicals is always a challenge. It requires extensive research, evaluation and testing of each natural ingredient to ensure the delivery and efficacy of our 30 essential vitamins and minerals.

Q: One of the things that I loved about The Healthy Baby Lotion is the scent. Can you talk a bit about how this natural ‘baby’ scent came to be?

Danielle: We absolutely wanted a natural aroma for the collection that would complement, not replace the natural essence of a baby. It was integral to the story and a challenge to have it done 100% naturally. Our blend of organic chamomile and vanilla creates a tender, baby soft experience. We are proud of this achievement!

Q: What’s your favorite product in the line? Why?

Danielle: I love the Baby Wash. I’m a huge fan of multi-functional, one-handed products and this is the perfect way to wash my little one head to toe (and me as well!).
