Whether it be the sun, sand, sea or pool, our hair takes a beating when the temperatures rise. According to the world’s leading trichologist and hair extraordinaire, Philip Kingsley, the time it takes to ruin hair is a fraction of the time it will take to repair it.

Kingsley recommends the following when trying to repair damaged hair post summer:

  • Hair damage can occur at any time, but particularly during summer. The combination of sun, chlorine, wind and “beach life” dries up the moisture content of the hair cells and results in loss of elasticity (stretchability) leading to hair breakage, split ends and dull hair.
  • The choice of shampoos to help repair the damage depends on what damage has occurred. It is not a case of ingredients to look for, because these can vary considerably, and a lot depends on percentages of ingredients as well as the methods of blending. It is important to look at the label and choose a shampoo for your hair texture (fine, medium, wavy or frizzy) and look for words such as “remoisturizing” or “moisturizing.”
  • It is important to choose a moisturizing or remoisturizing conditioner and leave in conditioning styling aid that has a sun screen and protective qualities against heat. Use a hair mask to help restore elasticity, stretchability, strength, moisture, body and control.
