There’s always something a little sad about how people copy other people’s ideas. Think of Crocs – the uglier than life but so comfortable shoes: as soon as they became popular, every shoe company had a version of Crocs available. The same is true with vibrating mascaras. It seems that every beauty brand now offers one. Though this is a sad trend for the companies that come up with such innovations, we, the consumer, can only benefit from a little competition. Thus, I introduce you Maybelline’s Define-a-Lash Pulse Perfection.

The first battery-operated vibrating mascara to hit the drugstores everywhere, this one is bound to make a splash. Costing only $15, the wand vibrates 7,000 times a minute and envelops each individual lash in a healthy coat of mascara.

Now, like other vibrating mascara (read a previous review of Lancome Oscillation Mascara here), this one takes a few trials before you get optimum results. So, most importantly, don’t pass judgment or give it up after the first 2 applications. Trust me – you will want to hang in there because once you do get the hang of it, you’ll be able to get “wow” lashes in not time. One trick: move lightly and quickly – easier said than done but worth the trouble.

Estee Lauder’s Sumptuous Color Bold Mascara – How I learned to love it

There’s no quicker way to ruin a look than to apply clumpy, flaky mascara. Every thing else I can fix: apply a bit more foundation, use a little cotton swab – but if my mascara goes wrong, that is it! Off must everything come with a full-face wash. As you can imagine, I’m not happy when that happens and make sure I go out of my way to let everyone know about such awful mascaras.

That’s what I thought I would have to do with Estee Lauder’s new Sumptuous Color Bold Volume Lifting Mascara -and thankfully, it was not the case! When I first applied it, all I got was clumpy – and I mean CLUMPY – lashes. Nothing else. I mean, the color was great but who cared when all of your lashes were bunched together into one?

Though I was ready to toss these, I decided to try them again and I’m glad I did. The formula in this mascara is actually great, with its blend of fine peals and pigments and lightweight gels – all things that help your lashes look longer and fuller – and supposedly clump free. The trick here is to rid the brush of some excess mascara. Immediately, the results were drastic:

I think that because the brush is so round and includes two types of fibers, that it collects a bit more mascara than other brushes, thus causing clumps (Maybe Estee Lauder should try something like LashControl genius packaging!). Once you do get rid of the excess though, this mascara goes on beautifully.

The colors are incredible – Amber, Garnet, Sapphire, Amethyst and Emerald – and it stays on all day.

Are Those Your Lashes or Are You Happy to See Me? Imju Fiberwig and Tiny Sniper Review + Giveaway

Like most gals out there, I do want long fuller lashes. But like most of you, I am afraid of all the chemicals and potentially hazardous ingredients contained in the products that promise longer, fuller lashes. The reports on some of the results are scary, so I shy away from them and keep searching for the one mascara that will deliver these results without any of the risks. I think my search is over.

“Paint-on false lashes” – that’s what the box promises.

Sounds a bit scary and complicated, doesn’t it? But there’s nothing scary or complicated about Imju’s Fiberwig mascara and its fine-tuner counterpart, Tiny Sniper. Meant to elongate your lashes without any of the hassle of false lashes, Fiberwig and Tiny Sniper contain a dual fiber technology made up of both long and short fibers that intertwine and attach to your own lashes, thus creating the illusion of longer lashes.

Fiberwig Mascara - not by any stretch your typical mascara, and as such, it will take a little getting used to and a couple of applications to get optimal results. The directions are easy to follow, though:
1) Start by wiggling the brush at the root to set a base. Give your lashes one or two full brush-strokes from root to tip to seal the light film coat to each full lash.
2) Dip the brush back into the tube to gather more fibers. At this point, you might be tempted to do what we do with every other mascara: to get rid of the goop at the end of the brush. But don’t! Instead, using the tip of the brush, wiggle the ‘goop’ at the root of the lash again and stroke upward from root to tip.
Because the formula contains fibers, it looks very thick when you remove the brush from the tube, but don’t be fooled. The thick brush delivers a clump-free look, and even with just a quick application, your lashes look immediately longer. And because the second step involves attaching fibers to your own lashes, the more layers you add, the longer your lashes will look, though I found that allowing a minute or so between layers help with achieving a more natural look.

Tiny Sniper – formulated according to the same concept as Fiberwig, this tiny tiny ultra-fine angle brush helps reaching the little, thin, hard-to-reach, and the lower lashes. I have used it alone for a more dramatic look (the precision of the brush is incredible) but most often I use it according to the directions: after mascara application, use Tiny Sniper to catch the lashes that are too small or thin for a regular brush. I love applying it to my lower lashes! The thinness of the brush makes application effortless and my lower lashes look incredible.

Blink: Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Loose Colour Concentrates

Yet again I find myself obsessing over another Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Now, not only am I completely in love with their Lip Tars (OCC just added 2 new colors! Plum and Vintage) but I am also head-over-heels over their Loose Colour Concentrates.

These micronized colour pigments can be used in so many ways I may even be able to do away with my makeup case and just keep these: wet your liner brush a little and use them as eye liners; sweep across your lid for shimmering shadows; fluff over cheeks for perfect blushing; pat over clear gloss for amazing lip color. Lightweight and super refined, these powders can be manipulated to reach your desired effect. A few favorite all-around colors:

Burning: a bright coral with subtle violet shimmer that looks amazing on cheeks, lids, and lips.

Copperwire: Not sure it’s meant to be used as a bronzer – but it works great as one!

Platonic: a go-to everyday pale champagne color that gives you just the right shimmer.

Brasstacks: did anyone say smoky eyes?

Gecko: favorite color, hands down. Would roll in it if I could.

If there ever was an makeup item that I could never imagine being completely changed, that item was mascara. Yes, every few months or so a new brand with a new brush with a new technology comes on the market, but, in the end, mascara remains mascara and we all have our favorites.
This, however, has changed. Lancôme has upped the mascara game forever! Ôscillation, the super vibrating ( 7000 oscillations per minute!!! now that’s a lot of oscillations!!) has come to town and redesign the way we think and understand mascara.

The logic behind the new design? The oscillations help the mascara adhere to your lashes from every point – under, over, above, beyond – extending your lashes and the way they look. Just think about it: we have been trying to oscillate our mascara for ages, and now this one does for us and does it right!

The mascara formula itself is great – it stays in place on day long, allowing your to reach the end of the day without the oh-so-common raccoon eyes. The wand comes out of the container already clump-free and feels very much like other wands – except better.

It takes a few tries to get optimum results, but once you do, you ain’t ever going back!
