NY Event: NY Makeup Show Update + Review

Though it seems impossible, the NY Makeup Show and come and gone – and boy, was I in for a surprise! Having read all there was to read about the Show, I thought I was prepared for what these 2 days of all-things-beautiful were going to be like: I read the press release, studied the program, learned a bit about the 75 odd vendors present, selected forums to attend… I thought I was ready.

Nothing, however, could have prepared me for what the Show is in reality. As early as 9 o’clock Sunday, a line around the Metropolitan Pavilion signaled the beginning of this absolutely must attend event for anyone and everyone in the beauty business. Imagine the width of a football field. Now filled with the hottest and coolest brands of cosmetics out there. Now add a multitude of men and women eager to see and learn about all of these brands. Yeap! You got it! The result is sheer madness – but thankfully, a very civilized and pleasant madness! With booths offering services from mentoring to High Definition Body Art, there was lots of somethings to please everyone and leave them asking for more.

Here are some highlights:

Loved every minute of keynote speaker Dany Sanz, founder of Make Up For Ever, “Career in Makeup,” her very first NY appearance. It was easy to see why Make Up For Ever is celebrating 25 years! Dany spoke about her career, the industry, what she has learned, and about the company.
Found a kindred spirit. James Vincent won me over with his smile and disposition – not to mention his all things makeup genius. His Triptych: Iconic New York Beauty – fashioned after NYC icon Edie Sedgwick, Debbie Harry, and Diana Vreeland – was terrific in every way!
Finally understood the craze over Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics‘ Lip Tar. Stay tuned for a review and giveaway!
Almost died of envy. Danielle Fonseca drove herds to the Temp tu booth. She’s so beautiful and so incredibly talented – not fair! Her Airbrush Artistry seminar was a hit! And though I know that Temptu is beyond my grasp, a little birdy told me that pretty soon there will be a Temptu line for us, everyday people. Stay tuned! Discovered Koh Gen Do‘s Spa Cleansing Water. I knew I liked Obama for more than his political views! I hear he’s a fan. Review coming up!

Got the makeover of a life time and feel in love with Jane Iredale‘s Golden Glow. Kevin and Christine brightened the booth with their smile and talents.

Am totally psyched about Korres‘ new skin care line – Materia Herba! ! Review coming up!

Learned about Yu-Be, Tassi, and India Medow Herbals – where have these products been all of my life?
Am totally convinced that all will be all right now that I have discovered Three Custom Colors and their magical lab downtown NYC. Not to mention their gorgeous and perfect in every way Frangipani Sheer Lipstick. Review coming up!

Spend a lovely 30 minutes chatting with Alison from Alison Raffaele Cosmetics and was so happy to learn more about this wonderful line of parabens, talc, mineral oil, fragrance, and gluten free skin care and makeup products.
Feel in love with PowderPuff Squad palettes – the blush colors are stunning.
Discovered my true skin after experiencing the power of Sun Laboratory Body Polisher and Self Tan Remover. Review coming up!
Learned the miraculous power of Luminess and Luminess Tan from the source: Marc Harvey. Review coming up!
Am obsessed with Crown Brushes‘ Italian Badger Series, The Balm’s Down Boy, Mac‘s Mineralize Blush, Young Blood Cosmetics‘s Lipgloss, Smashbox‘s Lash DNA Mascara, and Stila‘s Summer Gold Collection. Reviews coming up!

At the end of the day Monday, though exhausted, everyone was still in good spirits. Props to The Powder Group for putting together such a wonderful, flawless, and meticulously arranged event.

Self Workout in the Park update

I had a blast yesterday at the Self Workout in the Park in NYC. I brought my mom and sister along, got there on the earlier side and stayed until the end. Here are some highlights:

The Rebounding Zone was almost instantly filled with no spots left for the rest of the day (lesson learned: if you really want try the Rebounding Classes – and boy did they look good! – go there right away, stay in line and put your name on the list. Then go and explore the booths. ) One of the instructors had her kid with her who was absolutely adorable and knew all the moves. I guess we might say it runs in the family.
On the Main stages, classes varied in both style and strength. Most of the instructors were excellent, but a few were not at all prepared to teach such a large crowd. Latin Rhythm, for example, had 3 instructors, 2 of which were excellent, and 1 that just seemed to be dancing up there with no rhyme or rhythm. Beach Body was excellent and so was Stiletto Strength – great instructors, great music, great workout.
Masala Bhangra was the last class offered on the Main Stage and it was EXCELLENT! I had never taken a class like this and loved every minute of it. The instructor – Sarina Jain – was funny but firm, had great rhythm and sense of humor, and got the crowd to work their but out in a fast and dynamic workout. If you have a chance, try it!
All of the sponsors had booths with plenty of samples of their products to give out, including Blue Almonds little packets, EAS bars, Smartfood bags of popcorn clusters, Physicians Formula lipgloss, Purevie dusted Strawberries, among others. These were in no short supply.
Garnier had a booth offering sun damage screening – spooky to see all that lies under your skin, – as well as hair consultations.
Maybelline had a booth with makeup consultations and demonstrations.

I left feeling tired but happy, with a bag filled with goodies. On the way out, Soyjoy was handing out free bars for the hungry participants.
If you are attending the one in Chicago next weekend, I’d say bring water! They give you a bottle when you arrive, but after so much exercise, I found that I needed a lot more. If you are not, get your tickets NOW and go! You won’t regret it!

This event promises to be better than ever, with fantastic exhibitors, classes, forums, speakers… I mean, every thing and any thing makeup related under one roof! It’s like a dream come true! I can hardly believe that I’ll be attending the NY Makeup Show! Are you asking yourselves, but Pasha, what is the Makeup Show? Well, it is the absolute authority event on beauty out there today. A must-attend event for everyone in the beauty business, the show attracts the very best and biggest brands, the coolest speakers, and the most cutting edge makeup know-how classes, seminars, and forums.

NYC Event: Self Workout in the Park

It always surprises me all that goes on without my knowing in NYC! You’d think that an event like this would have come across a gal like me, but no, had never heard of it until I saw an ad on the pages of Self Magazine. Self Workout in the Park is a day of clean fun the parks around the nation. The NYC one will take place on May 9 and I can hardly wait! With several super cool sponsors (Asics, Garnier, Jell-o, Lucy, Maybelline, Pretty, Reebok, Smartfood, Purevia, etc) and 75% of tickets sales benefiting Cancer and Careers, Fertile Hope and Susan G. Komen for the Cure, this promises to become an annual must. Crunch will be teaching classes that range from Virgin Yoga to Moviography, and with names like that, who can resist? Tickets are $15 and include a one-year subscription to Self (or a $10 refund if you don’t want the subscription).

NYC Event: Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash

Just got my ticket to the Sassy City Chicks Fashion Bash in New York on April 30, 2009. I have never attended their event’s before and am happy that it’s fast approaching. Tickets are $20 but right now they are running a BOGO! So I get to shop, save, and bring my sister along! YAY!

The VIP admission get you early entry, a VIP gift bag (valued at $30), food and drink specials, and complimentary spa services.

Will come back and report on findings – here’s to hoping they are good!
